Mar 16Brittanie Nicole Cecil, age 13, is struck by a puck when a slapshot by Columbus Blue Jacket center Epsen Knutsen was deflected by Calgary Flames defenseman Derek Morris with 12:18 remaining in the second period. The puck struck Brittanie, sitting more than 100 feet behind the glass, in the left temple. She dies two days later (on March 18th), the first spectator fatality in the 85 year history of the NHL.
