May 21Springfield, OR. Two students killed, 22 others wounded in the cafeteria at Thurston High School by 15-year-old Kip Kinkel. Kinkel had been arrested and released a day earlier for bringing a gun to school. His parents were later found dead at home.Ref: 88

Jan 11Kindergarten student caught with loaded handgun at Bronx school.Ref: 5
Jan 17Five children are shot to death and 30 wounded at the Cleveland Elementary School in Stockton, California, by Patrick Edward Purdy, a former studend and drifter who then killed himself. (TWA, 1990)Ref: 95

Jan 18A jury in Los Angeles acquitted former preschool operators Raymond Buckey and his mother, Peggy McMartin Buckey, of 52 child molestation charges.Ref: 70
1992
May 01OLIVEHUST, Calif.: Eric Houston, 20, kills four people and wounds 10 in an armed siege at his former high school where he failed history four years earlier. Prosecutors said the attack was in retribution for a failing grade. Houston was convicted and was given a death sentence.Ref: 9
1993
Jan 18Scott Pennington, 17, walks into Deanna McDavid's seventh-period English class at East Carter High School in Grayson KY and shot her in the head. He then shot janitor Marvin Hicks in the abdomen. Pennington was sentenced to life without parole for 25 years.Ref: 9
Feb 12Two 10-year-old boys, Robert Thompson and Jon Venables, lured 2-year-old James Bulger from his mother at a shopping mall in Liverpool, England, then beat him to death. (After serving 8 years in a reformatory, Thompson and Venables were released after a parole board found they no longer posed a danger to the public.)Ref: 70

May 26Clay Shrout, 17, high school senior from Union KY killed his parents and two younger sisters; took a class hostage at Ryle High School. 
Sep 01Chicago police find the body of 11-year-old Robert "Yummy" Sandifer, a suspect in a gang-related killing who apparently became a victim of gang violence. 
1995
Jan 23John Sirola, 14, an eighth grader from Redlands CA wounds a school principal, shooting him in the face at Sacred Heart School. Sirola accidentally shot and killed himself when he tripped fleeing the scene. 
Sep 24A 16-year old boy in Cuers, France kills 13 people before turning the gun on himself. (XDG, p 4A, 9/24/2000) 
Oct 30RICHMOND, Va.: Edward Earl Spellman, 18, shoots and wounds four students outside their high school. 
Nov 15Jamie Rouse, 17, a high school senior from Lynnville TN, kills a teacher and a student; another teacher wounded after being shot in the head at Richland School. 
1996
Feb 02Barry Loukaitis, a 14-year-old student turns an assault rifle on his algebra class, killing two classmates and a teacher at Frontier Junior High School in Moses Lake, Washington.Ref: 9
Feb 29ST. LOUIS: Mark Boyd, 30, fires into a school bus after its doors swung open, killing a pregnant 15-year-old and wounding the driver. 
Mar 13At Dunblane Scotland, a thirteenth century village on the edge of the Scottish Highlands, forty-three-year-old Thomas Hamilton bursts into the gymnasium of the Dunblane Primary School with four guns, and opens fire on a kindergarten class. Sixteen children and their teacher, Gwenne Mayor, are killed before Hamilton turns the gun on himself. Twelve other children in the class, along with one other adult, are also injured.Ref: 3
Jul 26LOS ANGELES: High school junior Yohao Albert Rivas, 18, shot and wounded two classmates in a stairwell on campus. 
Sep 25ATLANTA: David Dubose Jr., 16, shot and killed teacher Horace Morgan in a school hallway. 
1997
Jan 27WEST PALM BEACH, Fla.: Tronneal Mangum, 13, shot and killed another student on the sidewalk in front of his middle school. 
Feb 19Bethel, AK. The principal and one student are killed, two others wounded by Evan Ramsey, aged 16. Two other students are wounded. Authorities later accuse two other students of knowing the shootings would take place. Evan Ramsey was sentenced to two 99-year terms.Ref: 88
Mar 10(day unspecified) Sanaa, Yemen. Eight people (six students and two others) at two schools killed by Mohammad Ahman al-Naziri.Ref: 88
Oct 01Luke Woodham, a 16-year-old outcast in Pearl, Miss., is accused of killing his mother, then going to Pearl High School and shooting nine students. Two of them die, including the suspect's ex-girlfriend. The 16-year-old is sentenced to life in prison. Two others await trial on accessory charges. Ref 
Oct 22NORWALK, Calif.: Khoa Truc "Robert" Dang, 21, fatally shot his 16-year-old ex-girlfriend on her high school campus. 
Oct 31ST. LOUIS: A student with a gun critically wounds another student in a school hallway. 
Dec 01West Paducah, KY. Three students killed, five wounded by Michael Carneal, 14, as they participated in a prayer circle at Heath High School. Carneal pleads guilty but mentally ill to murder and is serving life in prison. One of the wounded girls is left paralyzed.Ref: 88
Dec 15Joseph "Colt" Todd, 14, is arrested and charged as an adult after he confessed to the sniper shooting and wounding two students outside of Stamps High School, Stamps, AR. The students recovered; Todd was tired of being picked on. Ref 
Dec 15Stamps, AR. Two students wounded. Colt Todd, 14, was hiding in the woods when he shot the students as they stood in the parking lot.Ref: 88

Mar 24Jonesboro, AR. Four students and one teacher killed, ten others wounded outside as Westside Middle School emptied during a false fire alarm. Mitchell Johnson, 13, and Andrew Golden, 11, shot at their classmates and teachers from the woods. Both are convicted in juvenile court of murder and can be held up to age 21.Ref: 88
Apr 24Edinboro, PA. A 48-year-old science teacher, John Gillette, is killed, two students wounded at a graduation dance at James W. Parker Middle School. Andrew Wurst, 14, was charged.Ref: 88
Apr 28In W.R. Myers High School, Taber, Alberta, Canada, Jason Lang, 17, was killed and another student wounded after shots were fired by a student with a semi-automatic .22-calibre rifle. 
Apr 28Two teenage boys are shot to death and a third is wounded as they played basketball at a Pomona, Calif., elementary school hours after classes had ended. A 14-year-old boy is charged; the shooting is blamed on rivalry between two groups of youths. Ref 
May 19Johnston, RI. Two boys are suspended from school in after being accused of writing and handing out threatening notes to classmates. The notes said things such as, "All your friends are dead." The boys are ordered to remain out of school until they have been evaluated to determine whether they are dangerous.Ref 
May 19Fayetteville, TN. One student,Robert "Nick" Creson,18, is killed in the parking lot at Lincoln County High School three days before he was to graduate. The victim was dating the ex-girlfriend of his killer, 18-year-old honor student Jacob Davis.Ref: 88
May 21St. Charles, MO. Three sixth-grade boys had a "hit list" and were plotting to kill fellow classmates on the last day of school in a sniper attack during a false fire alarm, police say. Ref 
May 21Houston, TX. A 15-year-old girl is shot and wounded at a suburban high school when a gun in the backpack of a 17-year-old classmate goes off in a biology class. The boy is charged with a third-degree felony for taking a gun to school. Ref 
May 21Sophomore Kip Kinkel opened fire in the Thurston High School cafeteria in Springfield OR, killing two and wounding 20 more. Kinkel is also accused of killing his parents the previous day.Ref: 9
May 21Onalaska, WA. A 15-year-old boy dies from a self-inflicted gunshot wound to the head. Earlier in the day, the boy boarded a high school bus with a gun in hand, ordered his girlfriend off the bus and took her to his home, where he shot himself. Ref 
Jun 12A jury in Hattiesburg MS, convicted 17-year-old Luke Woodham of killing two students and wounding seven others at Pearl High School.Ref: 70
Jun 15Richmond, VA. One teacher and one guidance counselor wounded by 14-year-old Quinshawn Booker in the school hallway. The man suffers an injury to the abdomen that wasn't life threatening; the woman is reportedly grazed.Ref: 88
Aug 11In Jonesboro, Arkansas, Mitchell Johnson pleads guilty to the Jonesboro schoolyard massacre on his fourteenth birthday, and Andrew Golden, aged twelve, was convicted. Juvenile Court Judge Ralph Wilson Jr., sentenced them to the maximum penalty allowed by law--confinement to a juvenile center; perhaps until they turned twenty-one. (XDG, p 4A, 8/11/2003)Ref: 83

Oct 05Michael Carneal pleaded guilty but mentally ill to fatally shooting three fellow students and wounding five other people at Heath High School in West Paducah, Ky. (He was later sentenced to life in prison without the chance of parole for 25 years.)Ref: 70

Apr 16NOTUS, Idaho: A high school sophomore fires two shotgun blasts in a school hallway. No one injured. 
Apr 20Littleton, CO. 14 students (including killers) and one teacher killed, 23 others wounded at Columbine High School in the nation's deadliest school shooting. Eric Harris, 18, and Dylan Klebold, 17, had plotted for a year to kill at least 500 and blow up their school. At the end of their hour-long rampage, they turned their guns on themselves.Ref: 88
Apr 28Taber, Alberta, CN. One student killed, one wounded at W. R. Myers High School in first fatal high school shooting in Canada in 20 years. The suspect, a 14-year-old boy, had dropped out of school after he was severely ostracized by his classmates.Ref: 88
May 20Conyers, GA. Six students injured at Heritage High School by Thomas Solomon, 15, who was reportedly depressed after breaking up with his girlfriend.Ref: 88
Sep 24Oregon teen-ager Kip Kinkel, who killed his parents and gunned down two classmates at school, abandons his insanity defense and pleads guilty to murder. He will later be sentenced to 112 years without parole. 
Oct 29Luis Alfredo Garavito confessed to murdering 140 children in Columbia, according to prosecutors. (30 Oct 1999)Ref: 9

Nov 1613-year old Nathaniel Abraham, among the youngest murder defendents in US history, is convicted in Pontiac MI of second degree murder for shooting a stranger outside a convenience store with a rifle when he was 11. He was sentenced to juvenile detention. The decision on whether he will serve adult prison time is deferred. (XDG, p 4A, 11/16/2000)Ref: 83
Nov 19Victor Cordova Jr., 12, allegedly shot and killed a female classmate, Araceli Tena, 13, at the end of lunch hour outside Deming Middle School. Deming, NM, about 33 miles from the Mexican border. The boy was wearing a camouflage jacket when he allegedly fired the single shot from a .22-caliber handgun. Ref 
Dec 06Fort Gibson, OK. Four students are wounded from gunshot wounds and a fifth who suffered bruises in the chaos as Seth Trickey, 13, opened fire with his father's 9mm semiautomatic handgun at Fort Gibson Middle School.Ref: 88
Dec 07Veghel, Netherlands. One teacher and three students wounded by a 17-year-old student.Ref: 88
2000
Feb 24Police in Newark NJ charge 11-year old Raquyda Nichole Harris with assault for using a pair of scissors to cut off a lock of another girls hair, based upon a complaint by the victim's mother. Harris is arrested for the incident which occurred two days earlier in gym class, is handcuffed for two hours until she was released by her mother. Lt Gary Vickers, Sgt Noemio Oliveria and Sgt Amilkar Velez were suspended the next day. Harris was suspended from school for five days. (The Columbus Dispatch, 02/27/2000, p 17A) 
Feb 29Mount Morris Township, MI. Six-year-old Kayla Rolland shot dead at Buell Elementary School near Flint, Mich. The assailant was identified as a six-year-old boy with a .32-caliber handgun.Ref: 88
Mar 05(day unspecified) Branneburg, Germany. One teacher killed by a 15-year-old student, who then shot himself. The shooter has been in a coma ever since.Ref: 88
Mar 10Savannah, GA. Two students are killed by Darrell Ingram, 19, while leaving a dance sponsored by Beach High School.Ref: 88
Apr 24A teen-age gunman opened fire at Washington's National Zoo, wounding seven children.Ref: 6
May 11A seventh-grade student who left the Prairie Grove Junior High school Prairie Grove, Arkansas in an apparent fit of rage and a police officer were injured Thursday after shooting each other in an altercation in a hay field north of the student's school. Ref 
May 26Lake Worth, FL. One teacher, Barry Grunow, shot and killed at Lake Worth Middle School by Nate Brazill, 13, with .25-caliber semiautomatic pistol on the last day of classes.Ref: 88

Jan 15New York, NY. A teenager wounded two students at Martin Luther King Jr. High School.Ref: 88
Feb 19Freising, Germany. Two killed in Eching by a man at the factory from which he had been fired; he then traveled to Freising and killed the headmaster of the technical school from which he had been expelled. He also wounded another teacher before killing himself.Ref: 88
Apr 26Erfurt, Germany. 13 teachers, two students, and one policeman killed, ten wounded by Robert Steinhaeuser, 19, at the Johann Gutenberg secondary school. Steinhaeuser then killed himself.Ref: 88
